How we learn together.

– Combining pedagogies to fit our family.

Our pedagogical approach

We borrow from several pedagogies to creat a methodology that combines our professional and educational skillsets to provide an education rich in both concept and practice.

Science

We try to give our students a wide variety of science to engage with from earth sciences to engineering and many in between.

Math

They seem to demonstrate a genuine eagerness to learn math and solving a math problems is cause for celebration. Without much effort math class often becomes a competition between who can solve the biggest number problems or who can arrive at the ansewer fastest.

Art

From 3d printing to painting it’s hard to keep them from making up some new piece of art. They are comfortable with, markers, paint brushes, crayons and colored pencils as well as some digital media.

Language Arts

Having read to our children since birth they have developed an unquenchable thirst for reading and writing. They often enlist us to type up a new book or movie idea they can’t yet write fast enough to get from their minds onto paper. They are are diligent in learning how to spell and continue to practice and improve their handwriting.

Social Studies

From currency to civics and social contracts we are setting the ground work for functional members of society who understand not only the rules but why and how they became the status quo.

Music

We think it is as important to learn instruemnts and composition as it is to hear a wide variety of music. We have learned about traditional music from India, Japan and Brazil as well as more modern music like Afro-Cuban Jazz, Etheopean jazz and American Funk and Blues. Like food we believe having a diverse musical pallet is benificial to growth.

Health

Our focus this year has been two fold; Healthy living and an understanding of how the body functions on a celular and systemic level.

Physical Education

We believe in trying all the sports until you find a fit and then drilling down on that. So far we have tried, soccer, basketball, track, badminton and swimming, they seem to love them all. Most of all however they love free play at the park.
